Kolkata Knight Riders’ all-round performance helped them beat CSK at their home turn by 6 wickets on Sunday and, thereby, kept their hopes alive for the playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders bowled beautifully to restrict Chennai Super Kings to 144 runs on the board. CSK made a quick start but continued to lose wickets after the first three overs.

KKR spinners made great use of the conditions and spun a web around the opposition batter. Venkatesh Iyer, once again, got Ruturaj Gaikwad out and also sent Ajinkya Rahane back to the hut inside the powerplay.

Conway played an uncharacteristic knock of 30 off 28 as he too struggled to get going on the slow and turning track. Narine, who hasn’t had much success this season, took the vital wickets of Rayudu (4) and Moeen Ali (1) and returned with stellar bowling figures of 2 for 15 in 4 overs.

Varun Chakravarthy was brilliant too apart from his last over, which proved expensive. He too returned with two vital wickets as well. CSK couldn’t have reached past 140-mark had Shivam Dube not played an impactful knock of 48 runs in 34 balls, including 1 four and 3 sixes.

He didn’t play any rash shot and stayed right till the end. However, other than that, the CSK batters struggled to hit the straps against KKR spinners at home ground.

On a pitch that was turning, the match was evenly poised till the halfway stage. Deepak Chahar accounted for the wickets of Jason Roy (12), Gurbaz (1), and Iyer (9) inside the powerplay to leave KKR reeling at 33 for 3.

CSK were pretty much favorites to win the clash at that point. However, Rinku Singh then joined hands with Nitish Rana and the duo staged an outstanding comeback.

Given that the required run rate was under control, the duo made sure they take little risk and take the game till the end. They placed the ball pretty well and scored boundaries at regular intervals. A 99-run partnership between the two for the fourth wicket meant KKR easily chased down the target with 9 balls to spare.

Rinku Singh got run out but played yet another masterclass knock of 54 off 43 in a run-chase. Nitish Rana stayed unbeaten on 57 off 44, including 6 fours and 1 six.
