The first T20I game between Afghanistan and Pakistan became a historic game for the Afghans. For the first time in its history, the Blue Brigade won against its Asian neighbors. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, they came close but lost. In the 20-20 World Cup 2021 and the Men’s Asia Cup 2022, the Afghans came close but eventually lost. However, this time around, they have managed to cross the line.

After winning the toss, Pakistan’s Shadab Khan elected to bat first. However, the decision proved horribly wrong as they were restricted to 92/9. Only four batters crossed the double-digit mark. For the home team, Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, and Mohammad Nabi took two wickets each. On the other hand, Azmatullah Omarzai, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Rashid Khan took one each.

In reply, the home team lost four wickets for 45 runs However, their former skipper Nabi (38*) took the team over the line. With this win, the Afghans registered their first-ever victory. After the game, the team skipper Khan said that it was great to win against Pakistan.

“Pleasure to win as we’ve always lost against them, with small margins too. Happy for the win, hope to continue the momentum. Wearing Afghanistan colours and leading the team in a win is a proud achievement,” Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan said in the post-match.

“Congrats to everyone. Was a tough score to chase in these conditions. As a bowling unit, we wanted to keep them under 100. With the bat, I wanted to take responsibility and close the game. Most of the guys in our squad are playing big leagues, some have been here in the UAE for 15 days. So we were set,” Player of the Match, Mohammad Nabi said.
