Sanjay Manjrekar makes huge statement on Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri regime
The loss in Centurion during the first Test seems to have startled a lot of people. There are massive questions about the makeup of the Indian team. Rohit Sharma in particular has come in for some harsh calls from the experts of the game.
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar has made a huge statement about Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri’s regime. The coach and skipper had enjoyed success in Test Cricket during their stint together.
The pairing of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma has time and again been called out for the dismal performances. Players like Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna have been singled out for their below-par showing in the 1st Test.
Sanjay Manjrekar speaks about Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri era –
After the loss to South Africa, many cricket fans wanted Virat Kohli to take back the Test captaincy role. India had won many test matches when the 35-year-old was at the helm of affairs in the longest format.
Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar while speaking to ESPN CRICINFO said, “It will be a little harsh to drop Prasidh Krishna after one because, if you look at him, he is not somebody who hits the deck hard. He sort of uses his height. Anything that he pitches up is a bit floaty. The only ball that has a bit of pace and strength are short balls”
After Krishna made his below-par Test debut there are calls to include Mukesh Kumar in the team. Addressing this Manjrekar said “If Mukesh Kumar plays, I don’t think too many people will be unhappy. They will be looking at how he is bowling in the nets and think if it is fair on Prasidh Krishana because that is something the new management cares about, giving a fair run”
At this point of the conversation, Sanjay Manjrekar said “The earlier team management would have been ruthless. Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were sort of trigger-happy with such things. These guys (current management) might give one more go… But it is a two-match series, they might be keen to make changes.”
Shardul Thakur is yet another player, who has faced an injury scare ahead of the second game. Avesh Khan has been called up after it was confirmed that Mohammed Shami will not be playing in South Africa as he is still injured.
