Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is having a terrible time with the bat in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. Last year, he was the highest run-getter with 303 runs in six games. His performance led to the 2009 winners reaching the semis where they lost to Australia. However, the tables have certainly turned for the Lahore player this time around. Currently, he has played three games and has managed to score eight runs.

He has scored 0,4,4 against India, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands respectively. In the recently-concluded game against the Dutch, he drove the ball towards mid-on and took off for a single. Roelof van der Merve was stationed at the positioned mid-on and had a shy at the stumps. As he is a left-hander and was moving to his right. On most occasions, the Pakistan skipper might have made it easily.

However, van der Merve decided to come up with one of the best fielding efforts in the tournament. On the last ball of the second over of Pakistan’s innings, the former Protean ran-out Babar. With this, the misery of Azam continues and would be interesting to see how he comes over it given his team is in a must-win situation in the tournament.

The team did well with the bat: Babar Azam

Meanwhile, even though his bat isn’t doing the talking, Azam has said that he is happy to see others doing well. In the game against the Netherlands, the former champions won by six wickets and 6.1 overs to spare.

“I am very happy. Team did well with the ball and bat. I think the length was crucial. They needed to bowl on a good length because there was bounce on the surface. Everyone executed well. We are used to chasing much better than this. Win always gives you confidence. We are taking the good things forward to the next game.”

Now, Pakistan needs India to win their upcoming game against South Africa to remain afloat in the semis race.
