Scott Styris Makes A Huge Claim About Shubman Gill After West Indies Heroics
India thrashed West Indies in a three-match ODI series at a margin of 3-0. During the series, Shubman Gill was in great touch. In the absence of star players, Gill got the opportunity to open the innings with skipper Shikhar Dhawan. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he scored 205 runs in three matches, at an average of 102.50.
In the last match, rain robbed him of a hundred as he was not out for 98 runs while batting first. Now, former New Zealand player, Scott Styris heaped high praises on this youngster for his outstanding batting throughout the series. He also compared Gill with elite India batters like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma. Even though, he praised Gill for his versatile nature.
“But given the opportunity, I’m sure Shubman Gill can do well at number three, number four” – Scott Styris
Speaking to SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’, Styris said that he can also do well at the middle order. He said: “I still think there are holes in his game. What makes a world-class player is their mental thought process and their maturity and leadership. And I think he has that as well. And for that reason, yes you’re quite right you can keep him up there with the Rohit’s, KL Rahuls, and Shikhar’s in terms of openers,”
He added: “But given the opportunity, I’m sure he can do well at number three, number four and I think mostly in the T20 format, you look at players who can bat number one, number two, and number three,”
Styris also said that Gill showed some leadership skills in this series and he will gain more experience in more time to come. “He will gain experience, and as you rightly said, he has shown some leadership skills. So that will really do well for Shubman Gill in the future. One has seen him bat so well for India as an opener.” Styris concluded.
