Selectors Advice Indian Team Management To Monitor KL Rahul And Deepak Chahar During Zimbabwe Tour
India’s three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe is going to start on 18 August 2022. Senior players have taken a rest from this series as Asia Cup is starting on 27 August. However, India will not have the services of its regular head coach, Rahul Dravid. He has taken a rest also and hence, VVS Laxman got the opportunity again.
Now speaking of the squad players, KL Rahul and Deepak Chahar are back in the Indian squad after a long gap. Both of them are coming off an injury setback. Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been appointed as the captain for this series also. Now, Indian selectors sent a request to Laxman to keep track of these players’ fitness issues throughout the tour.
“We have requested Laxman to monitor KL Rahul and Deepak Chahar” – one of the selectors
Speaking to InsideSport, one of the Indian selectors said that they requested Laxman to keep a close eye on both these players’ fitness. KL Rahul is going to join the Asia Cup squad while Deepak Chahar is also on the radar as a backup.
He said: “Rahul and Chahar are important cogs in the wheels of the Indian cricket team. We want them to be completely fit. We have requested Laxman to monitor them. Rahul has to join the squad for Asia Cup. Chahar is also on the radar. We just want them to stay completely fit.” Speaking of these players, both of them are not playing competitive international cricket for quite a long time. Rahul had a sports hernia surgery and also contracted Covid recently.
On the other hand, Deepak Chahar had a back injury. Deepak Chahar played his last competitive game in February. He also missed the entire last edition of the Indian T20 League for his Chennai franchise. Meanwhile, KL Rahul played his last match in May in the Indian T20 League for his Lucknow franchise. Hence, ahead of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, their fitness will be on the radar of the selectors.
