‘Selectors have to take call on Virat’: BCCI official
Cricket fans around the world are no stranger to the name of Virat Kohli. He has been the most prolific run scored in the game in modern times. His dominance has spread across formats. His versatility and skill have never been doubted by anybody. But in the last couple of years, the modern master has just been a meager shadow of himself.
The last time fans saw Kohli crossing the three-figure marks in professional cricket was way back in November 2019. Since then, he has found it hard to get going. Even in the current Indian T20 League 2022, he is going through a terrible time. Kohli has just scored 128 runs from nine innings at an average of 16. The form has been a major concern for the fans and experts of the game alike.
In what comes as a piece of huge report, the BCCI officials and selectors are pondering Kohli’s place in the national T20 team. A top BCCI official has confirmed in a conversation with InsideSport that the selectors are seriously discussing Kohli’s current form.
“He is a great servant of Indian cricket. But his form from some time now is a huge concern now for the national selectors and BCCI,”- said the official.
On being questioned further about whether Kohli’s place in the team is in jeopardy, he added- “See we don’t intervene in the selection matters. Selectors have to take a call on Virat and others. We can’t give our judgment to them. Obviously, they are concerned about what is happening to him.”
Kohli’s struggle has been evident in his mode of dismissals. His mannerism and body language in the field suggest that he is not finding a way out of the current rut. He is looking helpless, to say the least, and these are ominous signs for Indian cricket.
