Shahid Afridi lashes out at Indian Cricket’s dominance in the world
Indian Cricket’s dominance is well-known around the globe and Pakistan is also not an exception. In recent times, the Indian cricket team is one of the most consistent teams across all the formats. Their franchise cricket tournament, the Indian T20 League just becomes one of the most famous leagues across sports in terms of media rights value. This tournament’s media right got sold at a combined amount of Rs.48,390 Crores.
Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jay Shah said that now this tournament will expand as a 74-day period will be granted in the coming days for this tournament. However, this decision did not go very well for the Pakistan Cricket Board as they asked for a meeting with other boards to find a solution. As per them, it will affect the bilateral series as maximum top players will get involved in that cash-rich league only for such a long time.
“Pakistani players are missing a big opportunity by not playing in the Indian T20 League” – Shahid Afridi
Now, former Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi had come out to say that Indian Cricket is very dominant and for that, whatever they want, it happens accordingly.
Speaking on Samaa TV’s show Game Set Match, Afridi said that the biggest cricket market is in India and thus, whatever they say, it happens. He said: “It all comes down to the market and the economy. The biggest [cricket] market is India. Whatever they will say will happen,”
He also shared his concerns for his country’s players as they do not receive any chance of showcasing their talent in this league due to the political equation between these two countries. “IPL is a very big brand and it’s an excellent opportunity – whether it’s Babar Azam or any other Pakistani players to go play under pressure and share the dressing rooms. Pakistani players are missing a big opportunity by not playing in IPL,” Afridi concluded in the show.
