“Pakistani flags were not available there” – Shahid Afridi
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Shahid Afridi said that no Pakistani flags were available there. Even though he is unsure about sharing that video on Twitter. He said: “My wife told me that there were barely 10% Pakistani fans in the stadium and the rest were Indian fans. Pakistani flags were not available there so my younger daughter was waving the Indian flag. I received the video, but I was unsure about whether to share it online or not.”
However, by winning that match, Pakistan made sure that they made one step ahead of this year’s final. After that, they won a nail-biter against Afghanistan. Naseem Shah won the match for his country by hitting two consecutive sixes while chasing 11 runs in the last over. But, they lost momentum against Sri Lanka.
Ahead of the final, both teams met on 9 September 2022. Pakistan batters were absolutely clueless. They got bundled out for 121 runs in 19.1 overs. In response, Sri Lankan batters were struggling a bit during the early stage of the innings. But, Pathum Nissanka remained not out on 55 runs off 48 balls. His inning ensured that Sri Lanka won that match with ease in just 17 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga won the player of the match award for taking three wickets in that match by conceding 21 runs in four overs.
