On 9 September 2022, Pakistan took on Sri Lanka in the ‘Super Four’ stage of the ongoing Asia Cup. However, before this clash, they already sealed their place in the female of this year’s tournament. Both these teams defeated India and Afghanistan in the second round. Hence, fans were waiting to see them in action ahead of the final on 11 September 2022.

Meanwhile, in this match, Babar Azam lost the toss. Sri Lanka opted to bowl first. Pakistan gave rest to Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah ahead of the important final. Therefore, ahead of that important match, both teams were looking to continue their winning momentum.

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by five wickets in Asia Cup 2022

While opening the innings, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan came out to bat. But, in this match, Rizwan got out early for 14 runs off 14 balls. Babar Azam scored 30 runs off 29 balls. After their wickets, other batters failed to score significantly. Sri Lankan bowlers were quite tight with their line and length throughout the innings. But, in the end, Mohammad Nawaz scored 26 runs off 18 balls, including one four and two sixes. Finally, Pakistan got bundled out for 121 runs in 19.1 overs. Hasaranga took three wickets in his four overs by conceding 21 runs.

In reply, Sri Lankan batters dealt with some heat from the Pakistan bowlers. They lost two wickets for two runs. But, Pathum Nissanka made sure that he remained unbeaten at one end. Then, skipper Shanaka and Rajapaksa scored some valuable runs for their team. Finally, they managed to chase down the target of 122 runs in 17 overs only. Nissanka remained not out on 55 runs off 48 balls, including five fours and one six. Thus, Sri Lanka continued its winning momentum by winning the match with five wickets to spare. However, Pakistan will have another chance to win against Sri Lanka on 11 September.
