MS Dhoni has been an integral part of the Chennai team since the inception of the Indian T20 League in 2008. He has led the team from the front in all their campaigns in the cash-rich league. The Men in Yellow have won 4 titles and have played in 9 finals under his leadership.

His contribution to the franchise has made him a beloved of the Chennai crowd. The fans and supporters of the team are always too eager to see him in action. Whenever there have been talks about his retirement from the tournament, the crowd has backed him to play one more season.

One such fan who likes to see MSD in action is the former Pakistani speedster, Shoaib Akhtar. In a recent interaction with Sportskeeda, Akhtar spoke about MSD’s future in the Indian T20 League. Akhtar said that he feels nobody can predict Dhoni’s moves, but he hopes that ‘Captain Cool’ plays for another season. He added that MSD can also become a part of the Chennai team management in the future.

“He is MS Dhoni. Can’t really predict what he does. He can do any odd stuff. He is known for doing that. He’s a great guy. We all love him and respect him. Personally, though, I reckon he will play another season before he calls it a day. Or again, he might be part of the management,”- Akhtar said.

Notably, Dhoni stepped down from the role of the captaincy of the Chennai team ahead of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. He handed over the responsibilities to Ravindra Jadeja, but under the new captain, Chennai was having a terrible time. They lost six of the eight matches they played under Jadeja and the allrounder was also not able to perform to his best with the responsibilities. Thus, Jadeja relinquished captaincy and handed the captaincy back to MS Dhoni. As the King got his crown back, Chennai also started to look like a different team. Under MSD they have two of their three matches and are still looking in contention for a berth in the playoffs.
