Sourav Ganguly opens up on Jasprit Bumrah’s chances of playing the 20-20 World Cup 2022
In the last few days, two different reports emerged on the injury status of Jasprit Bumrah. The first one said that he has been ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The other one said that Bumrah is been taken care of well and might recover for the showpiece event. In the midst of this confusion, the Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly has cleared the air for a while.
In an interview, he was asked about the status of Bumrah’s injury. To which, the former India skipper said that Jasprit is not out of contention for the World Cup as of now. Ganguly maintained that the next three to four days are important as far as the injury is concerned.
“No. Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet. Let’s see what happens,” Ganguly told RevSportz in a video posted on its Twitter account. “Fingers crossed. I don’t know (if he will travel to Australia). We will find out in 3-4 days. We have got our fingers crossed. Don’t rule him out yet,” Ganguly said.

Talking about Bumrah, he was ruled out of the first T20I against South Africa citing back pain. Now, he has been ruled out of the three-match series and is replaced by Mohammed Siraj. It will be interesting to see if he recovers on time before the team takes flight for Australia. The participating teams can make changes in their squad till October 15. After this date, any changes in the team will be approved by the World Cricket Governing Council.
India would be hoping for the 28-year-old to recover on time. The team missed his services during the Asia Cup 2022 and was knocked out after the Super Four round. During the tournament, the Men In Blue’s biggest issue was their death bowling. This is why the team would need Bumrah’s experience in the death overs during the World Cup.
