Sourav Ganguly reveals why Sarfaraz Khan was released from Delhi Capitals team ahead of IPL
The young and promising India batter Sarfaraz Khan finally got a chance to represent India. His long-awaited dream came to an end as he made his debut for India in the second Test match against England in Vizag. Sarfaraz Khan had a good performance in domestic cricket. In 47 first-class matches, Sarfaraz Khan has scored over 4056 runs with an average of 68.74. He also has 14 centuries and 13 half-centuries to his name. So far, he has impressed everyone with his batting performance in the ongoing Test series. He has scored twin half-centuries in the third Test match against England in Rajkot.
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Delhi Capitals has released him from the squad. In the mini auction of IPL 2024, he didn’t receive any bids from any team which resulted him in getting unsold. Sarfaraz Khan made his IPL debut in 2015 for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Till now he has played 50 games in IPL and has scored 585 runs with an average of 22.50.
Many teams want Sarfaraz Khan’s services in IPL
In IPL 2023 he was part of Delhi Capitals he got to play only 4 matches for the team but failed to capitalize the chance. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly who is now director for cricket at Delhi Capitals has stated that Sarfaraz Khan’s game is more favoured towards red-ball cricket rather than T20 cricket. Sourav Ganguly is also happy for Sarfaraz Khan getting his reward for his efforts.
“Sarfaraz is more of a five-day player. His game is more suited for that. The amount of runs he scored in domestic cricket is phenomenal. And as they say, if you score runs in first-class cricket it doesn’t go to waste and that’s what happened to Sarfaraz,” said Ganguly during an interview.
Ahead of IPL 2024 according to the reports Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders are interested in roping in Sarfaraz Khan for the season.
