South Africa’s 16 member squad for India tour announced, Mumbai batter gets his maiden call
South Africa have announced the squad that will be touring India for the five-match T20I series. The series is due to begin on the 19th of June. This series will be the first assignment for Temba Bevuma’s men since the 2021 T20 World Cup. The South African will be looking to use this series as a preparation ground for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled later this year. The squad seems like a good mixture of experience and youth. While most of the members are regulars there are also some interesting inclusions in the squad.
The most notable inclusion is that of Tristan Stubbs, who has received a maiden call-up to the national side. Besides Stubbs, Wayne Parnell is another interesting inclusion as he has received his maiden T20I call-up in 2017. The left-arm pacer returning to the national team will look to prove a point. The speedster, Anrich Nortje has also made a return to the national team after recovering from injury and there will be high expectations of him.
Most of the regular players of South Africa like Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada are currently playing in Indian T20 League 2022. They will look to deliver their best while donning the national colors.
The Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang, said in an official statement – “This is the Proteas like we have not seen them in a long time. The injection of the ITL players means that we will have a team that’s ready to fire on all cylinders immediately and has the vast experience of the conditions that we will be playing in.”
“Tristan Stubbs is an exciting prospect and we’re keen to see what he’s made of and we are looking forward to the return of the experience of Reeza (Hendricks), Klaasie (Heinrich Klaasen), and Wayne Parnell to join the likes of Tenma (Bevuma), Tabraiz (Shamsi) and Keshav (Maharaj)”, – he added.
