In what has come as a big blow to the Mumbai franchise, left-arm seamer Tymal Mills has been ruled out of the Indian T20 League 2022 due to an injury. The English paceman won’t be participating for the rest of the season. He played his debut season for Mumbai this year. The 29-year-old played five matches for the franchise and managed to pick 6 wickets at 31.67.

The franchise confirmed the update on their social media handle on Thursday. Besides, they also announced the replacement for the English cricketer for the rest of the season. South Africa’s 21-year-old batter Tristan Stubbs has replaced Mills in the squad.

“Mumbai Indians have signed South African Tristan Stubbs as a replacement for Tymal Mills, who has sustained an injury and has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL,” the MI wrote in a press release.

“The 21-year-old, talented middle-order batsman, recently debuted for the national South African A Squad against Zimbabwe. Tristan has had a very promising domestic season and played an important role for his team in the recently concluded T20 domestic league.”

“Tristan will join the MI squad for the rest of the season.”

Talking about the South African batter, Tristan has played 17 matches so far in his T20 cricket career. He has scored 506 runs at a strike rate of 157.14. Stubbs has three centuries to his name in the shortest format. Mumbai franchise have roped in for an amount of INR 20 lakhs. It will be interesting to see if he could get a chance to make his debut for the franchise this season.

As far as Mumbai’s performance this season is concerned, they are currently in dire straits. For those of you who don’t know, they are already knocked out of the playoff race.  In 9 matches, they have tasted defeats in 8 games.

Mumbai, in fact, suffered defeats in all of their first eight games. They, however, earned their first win in their last game against Rajasthan. Rohit Sharma and Co. are slated to play their next game against Gujarat on Friday at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
