Australian cricket team finally had a winning laugh in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. The visitors’ clinical performance helped them win the Indore Test by 9 wickets. With this win, Australia also secured a spot in the World Test Championship final, while India are yet to qualify.

As the regular skipper Pat Cummins flew back to Australia ahead of the third Test, due to his mother’s illness, Steve Smith took charge and did a phenomenal job as the captain. India are still leading in a four-match series by 2-1 and a win or even a draw in the Ahmedabad Test will win them the series as well as the second spot in the WTC final.

Talking about the match, India batted first at the Holkar cricket stadium and were bowled out for 109 runs in the first inning. Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann scalped 5 wickets conceding just 16 runs. Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon took 3 and Todd Murphy picked up 1 wicket.

Australia were going towards a big lead powered by Usman Khawaja’s 60 runs from 147 balls, but the visitors lost the last 6 wickets for just 11 runs bowling out for 197 runs. Australia were leading by 88 runs in the first inning. Ravindra Jadeja scalped 4 wickets for India, while Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav picked 3 each.

Nathan Lyon scalped 8 wickets

Coming to bat in the third inning, India kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Cheteshwar Pujara stood at one end and scored 59 runs off 142 balls. He hit five four and one six during his inning. Apart from Pujara, none of the Indian batters could score big and the hosts were bowled out for 163 runs in the second innings. Lyon was the star of the Australian bowling lineup in the third inning, as he scalped 8 wickets for 64 runs. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc and Kuhnemann shared a wicket each.

Australia were chasing 76 runs on day three and lost Khawaja on the second ball of the inning by Ashwin. However, it didn’t affect the Aussies much as they didn’t any wickets further and chased the winning total with 9 wickets in hand. Travis remained unbeaten on 49 off 53 balls, while Marnus Labuschagne scored 28 runs from 58 deliveries.
