Sri Lanka Cricket Board Announces The Schedule Of The Third Edition Of The Lanka Premier League (LPL)

The Sri Lanka T20 League was announced to kick off on 1 August 2022. Five teams like Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Colombo Stars, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Giants will compete against each other to win this tournament this year. Earlier this month, players got drafted for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL). 

A total number of 353 players were drafted and among them, 180 were foreign players and 173 were Sri Lankan players. Sri Lanka Cricket Board also shared earlier that the players were drafted into 20 rounds where players were considered from different categories. 

Several categories were ‘International Ruby,’ ‘International Sapphire,’ ‘International Diamond ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘International Platinum’. Two players from the Under-23 category were a must for each team when they built their squad for the upcoming season.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board announce the full schedule of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022

On 12 July 2022, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced the full schedule of this upcoming editing of LPL. Initially, it was scheduled to kick off on 31 July. But now, as per the announced schedule, the first match will take place on 1 August 2022 when Jaffna Kings will face Galle Gladiators. It will be the reigning champions taking on the runner-up of the year 2021 edition of LPL.    

A total number of 24 matches will be played while 20 matches will be played in the first round and four matches will be played in the final rounds, including the finals. After group stage matches, two qualifiers, one eliminator, and a final will be played in this tournament. Speaking about the venues, the whole tournament will be played on two grounds RPICS, Colombo, and MRICS, Hambantota.

Day matches will start at 3 PM while Night matches will be conducted at 7:30 PM. Starting from 1 August 2022, the first 14 matches will be played at the RPICS, Colombo. Then, the tournament will move to MRICS, Hambantota for conducting the rest of the matches.
