Star Pakistani bowler likely to make international comeback
Mohammad Amir has been the central point of many discussions both because of his on-field exploits as well his off-the-field antics. When he first emerged on the international scene, critics and fans were excited to see the young man displayed with the ball in hand. After making his debut for Pakistan in 2009, Amir was involved in the biggest controversies of cricket within a year. His name came up in the ‘Lords-Gate’, the spot-fixing scandal of 2010. He was handed over a multi-year ban for involvement in the incident.
However, he returned to cricket in 2015 and was playing full-fledged cricket. Within 5 years of his redemption, the pacer decided to retire from all forms of cricket. He announced his retirement in December 2020 stating that he was being mentally tortured.
“I am leaving cricket for now because I’m being mentally tortured. I don’t think I can bear such torture. I’ve borne lots of torture from 2010to 2015, for which I served my time. I’ve been tortured by being told that the PCB invested a lot in me.”- stated Amir while announcing his retirement.
While announcing his retirement Amir also stated that he would break his retirement and return to cricket after the departure of the then-national coaches Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq. But even after the change in setup Amir stayed away from international cricket due to Ramiz Raja’s no-tolerance policy regarding fixers.
Recent reports state that Ramiz Raja will be stepping down from the post of the PCB’s chairman following a successful no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Rumors are ripe that if Raza resigns Amir will come out of his retirement.
Notably, before hanging up his boots Mohammad Amir represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 50 T20Is.
