Suryakumar Yadav equals Virat Kohli’s record; crosses 2000 runs mark in T20Is
India’s attacking batter Suryakumar Yadav recently equalled the legendary batsman Virat Kohli’s record of scoring fastest 2000 runs in the shortest format of the game, the T20Is for India. Suryakumar Yadav crossed the 2000 runs mark during India’s recent match against South Africa in the second T20I game of India tour of South Africa at the St George’s Park, Gqeberha on 12 December.
Suryakumar Yadav achieved the milestone in the 56th inning, while representing India in the T20Is, the same as India’s former captain Virat Kohli, after hitting a six at the midwicket against the South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams.
Suryakumar Yadav became the joint third fastest batsman to score 2000 runs in T-20 format as he is only behind the Pakistani duo Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam who achieved the milestone in 52 innings.
Suryakumar Yadav on India losing the 2nd T20 against South Africa
The second T20 match of South Africa vs India was interrupted by rain but was not abandoned and South Africa Africa won the match by five wickets by DLS method. India put 180 runs on the board in 19.3 overs and South Africa were supposed to chase the score within 15 overs to win the match. South Africa scored 154 runs in 13.5 overs and were announced as winners as per DLS method.
In the post match ceremony after losing the second T20I match to South Africa, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav said, “At the halfway stage, I thought it was a par score but they batted beautifully in the first 5-6 overs and took the game away from us. It was the brand of cricket we were talking about, just go out and express ourselves. It was tough with the wet ball, but we would face similar situations in the future and it’s a good learning for us. Looking forward to the third T20I.”
