The 37-year-old had lost in the 2nd round of the 2023 Australian Open and hasn’t played since due to injuries. There were hopes Nadal would be back for the French Open but that did not happen.
Rafael Nadal further said “Until now I didn’t know if I would play tennis again someday, and now I genuinely believe I will. I’m still not ready to say when, but I’m able to train increasingly longer, and the progress is good,”
The 22-time grand slam winner has spoken about the efforts he has put into his comeback and worked on his fitness. “We know that the pain will never disappear, but I have taken a step forward”
Speaking further Rafael Nadal also said “That’s a lot for me. Talking about tennis is another matter altogether, as is the level I’ll be able to play at. But the steps toward trying to play again have been big and positive, which is what we have been fighting for for several months. It has been widely reported that 2024 may be the last year for Rafael Nadal in the tennis circuit. The former World Champion had said earlier this year “I try to enjoy and try to say goodbye [to] all the tournaments that have been important for me in my tennis career during [next] year and just try to enjoy that that, being competitive and enjoying being on the court.”
