‘Terko pucha kisine’ – Fans react as Aakash Chopra suggests couple of changes in next IPL season
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has proposed a couple of changes he wishes to get implemented in the next season of the Indian Premier League in 2024. He suggested the changes after looking at the ongoing season where three teams are yet to qualify for the playoffs with just four matches remaining in the league stage.
Chopra suggested that from next year, teams should be awarded a bonus point if they register a huge victory. He believes that it would be an easy equation for the playoff qualification as Net Run Rate (NRR) is difficult to understand. Next, he proposed that the matches in the final stages of the tournament should be started at the same time so that no team can get an early benefit.
“There are two changes that I’d propose for next season’s IPL 1. Introduction of the Bonus Points for winning a game with a huge margin. NRR is absolute but over 14 games is a tough math to understand. Bonus point is a tangible reward for playing significantly better. And also, keeps the interest alive for longer. 2. Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR…because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow depending on today’s results. Thoughts welcome,” Chopra tweeted.
IPL playoff race getting more exciting
The 16th edition of IPL is toward aa dramatic finish as almost six teams are still in contention to fill the remaining three spots for the playoffs. The defending champions Guajrat Titans (GT) are the only team to get qualified into the top four while teams like Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are out of the playoff race. Rajasthan Royals also intensified the contest after registering a 4-wicket win over PBKS in Dharamshala on Friday, However, they still have to depend on the remaining matches of the league stage to confirm their qualification.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are the teams with 15 points they need a win in their last league match to confirm their qualification in the top four. CSK will take on DC, while LSG will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their upcoming games on Saturday. If both teams win their matches, the team with a better net run rate will fix their pot in top-2.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) are in a do-or-die position and need to win their upcoming game. Even after that, they have to depend on the result of the next game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and GT. RCB have made their qualification stronger by registering a couple of victories against RR and SRH that also boosted their NRR. A win against GT in the last league match of the season will confirm their qualification for the playoffs. However, if GT defeated RCB by a big margin, RR would have a fair chance to make it into the top four.
I agree with your second point, but bonus points makes qualification easier and BCCI is making a lot of money especially this IPL since its highly thrilling with almost all teams fighting for playoff spots.I personally will remove the impact player rule,it’s destroying all rounder

Rebuttal
1) NRR is best. If u introduce bonus points, teams will try to finish before that many overs and end up messing things.
2) It is just an coincidence that teams with same ambition have game on same day. What if they have on other days? So this logic is logicless— Awara Kumar (@aawaaraahu) May 20, 2023
If there is a bonus point, second rule may not be required.
And, for a league that brought impact player rule to maximise the viewership of all 40 overs, no way they will start two matches at the same time.
Viewership is the main income source of IPL.

1. Couldn't agree more with a bonus point proposal.
2. When talking about the last few games of group stages, I would at least want that team which finished at top four in last season should have last fixtures in schedule according to their position in point tables.

Changes that are needed to render T20s competitive and fair
1. Abolish the penalty of free hit after a no ball; don’t punish a bowler twice
2. Allow bowlers to bowl two bouncers
3. Scrap powerplay
4. Scrap substitution
5. Get rid of the strategic break
6. Keep boundary side 75m.— Gowhar Geelani (@GowharGeelani) May 20, 2023
With the introduction of bonus point, we might see many collapses i guess. The small target chases in tricky pitches will prove vital. People might try to chase it quickly and end up being bundled and end short. Just like impact player rule, i think the bonus point will play in…

What will be definition of final leg? Will it be last 7 matches or last 4 matches?
Plus starting matches together cuts audiences which hurts revenues. Also matches are scheduled in advance.
Agree with suggestion but its implementation seems tough.
