Ollie Pope, the centurion of the 1st Test match, praises captain Ben Stokes for his amazing captaincy and for handling the team environment well. Stokes is set to play his 100th Test match for England tomorrow against India in Rajkot. Pope is extremely happy and proud of his captain as playing 99 Test matches is not everybody’s cup of tea. The England team is quite elated on Stokes’ achievement as they head to play the match on February 15.
Pope said, “The amount of times he’s done that over his career of 99
Tests so far is unbelievable. It’s unbelievable. For anyone to play 100 Tests is an unbelievable achievement. He’s obviously had his highs and his lows in his career, but what he’s done (since) he’s been captain, he’s been amazing and there’s so many special moments that he can look back on his career.”
Stokes has changed the England Test cricket scenario after getting the captaincy. His attacking batting and mindset have helped England recover from tough positions and win matches which were considered impossible. Moreover, one great thing about his captaincy is the way he deals with his teammates. It is important to have a captain who always has your back and Stokes is one of those. Hence, this achievement means so much to the entire team as well.
‘We’re not allowed to say Bazball’ – Ollie Pope reveals about ‘Bazball’ approach
No matter how much we praise the Bazball approach, the English players absolutely hate the term. Earlier in an interview Ben Stokes said that they didn’t come up with the word and nobody likes using it. Moreover, Ollie Pope also mentioned the ban of the word ‘Bazball’ in the dressing room. As per him, managing the situation and absorbing the pressure is much more important.
“It was sorted fairly quickly yesterday, but you’re sort of going on behind the scenes, hopefully within the next day or so. But now he’s in good spirits, the boys are getting around and he’s just happy to be out here training. Everyone bats differently in this team. We’re not allowed to say Bazball, but the start that we’re making isn’t always about attacking. A lot of the time it’s about absorbing pressure when we need to absorb pressure,” said Pope.
