The Croatian is likely to get more chances in Indian football: Reports
Indian football team head coach Igor Stimac is very disappointed after the exit of the Indian football Team from the Asian Cup. His plan fell short. The Indian football team lost to Syria by 1-0 in the final group game of the Asian Cup.
The Indian team has faced back-to-back defeats in their opening matches against Australia and Uzbekistan. Only a win in this game could have kept India’s hope alive to qualify for the second round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. India has ended their campaign with three defeats out of three and returns with a goalless tournament.
All India Football Federation officials are still confident that the coach will deliver good results in the second round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Asked about India’s disappointing show, the top officials said: “Once the squad is back, the top officials will have a debrief with him. As of now, there is no talk in Football House to look for a replacement. The reason why Stimac will get AIFF’s (All India Football Federation) full support despite India’s disappointing exit is that we have important matches coming up. For the first time in history, we may qualify for the third round of the qualifiers and Stimac has shown in the past that he can get the result. So right now he will get a lifeline as we can’t disturb him.
“At the Asian Cup, all three matches were expected to be tough, but we were hoping to advance as one of the best third-placed teams by beating Syria. We didn’t have a realistic chance against Australia (0-2) and Uzbekistan (0-3) but we should have done better against Syria (0-1)”, Management said pointing to the Palestine football team who advanced in the next round.
AIFF (All India Football Federation) have also said that India should have played more matches against higher-ranked teams in the run-up.
