In the ongoing 2023 World Cup, host India has maintained an impeccable record, winning all eight matches and securing the top spot on the table with 16 points. Rohit Sharma’s leadership has been instrumental in their success, outclassing opponents like South Africa and Australia. In a recent clash against South Africa, India displayed their prowess with an emphatic 243-run victory. Virat Kohli’s stellar century, his 49th in ODIs, propelled India to a formidable total of 326/5, complemented by crucial contributions from Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja.

The Indian bowlers, led by Jadeja’s five-wicket haul, orchestrated South Africa’s collapse for a mere 83 runs in pursuit of 327. Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj also made significant contributions. Jasprit Bumrah, although wicketless, showcased an economical performance. With one more game to go, India remains a dominant force, aiming to continue their unbeaten streak and solidify their position as serious contenders for the World Cup title. Following India’s victory against Temba Bavuma’s team, Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist commended Rohit Sharma’s bowlers and shared some valuable advice for their adversaries.

“I think firstly winning the toss and batting first, given how India have gone about their business. I don’t suggest that they have a weakness in chasing. They have the greatest-ever run-chase coordinator in Virat Kohli. But the damage that the Indian bowling attack has been doing under lights, they have been lethal. Siraj, Shami, and Bumrah have been almost unplayable. It might be more conducive to bat against them in daylight. They have always had a powerful batting line-up. But it’s the potency of the bowling that’s making them such a threat at the moment,” he further added.

India is likely to play New Zealand in Semi Finals

The former legendary wicket keeper batter has praised India for possessing a well-balanced team, emphasizing the seamless synergy between their pace trio and spin attack. With the exception of Afghanistan and Bangladesh, India has successfully bowled out all six opponents in the tournament. As the first team to secure a spot in the semifinals in their home World Cup, India currently leads the points table with 16 points and an impressive net run rate of 2.45.

Their upcoming semifinal match will be against either New Zealand or Afghanistan or Pakistan. If facing the Kiwis or Afghanistan, the match will be held in Mumbai. However, if India plays against Pakistan in the semis, the venue will shift to Kolkata.
