‘This is just incredible’- Twitter hails Rilee Rossouw for scoring first century of 20-20 World Cup 2022
South Africa is currently taking on Bangladesh in the Group 2 encounter at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The 20-20 World Cup 2022 has seen some great action already, and the first innings of this match was no different. South Africa won the toss and opted to ball first in the match.
Quinton de Kock, who continued his excellent form from the previous match, got the ball rolling. After the wicket of captain Temba Bauma in the first over, Rilee Rossouw joined De Kock in the middle. The two set the stage on fire as they put on a brilliant partnership.
While both batters played attacking cricket, Rossouw stole the show with his near-195 strike rate. The two scored 168 runs together, the most by a South African pair in the 20-20 World Cup. De Kock was finally dismissed in the 15th over, but Rossouw continued his assault and completed his century in the 17th over of the game.
With this, he became the first player to score a century in the 2022 edition of the World Cup and also the first-ever South African to score a hundred in the 20-20 World Cup. The list of records does not stop here. He also became the first player from a full-member team to score a century in two consecutive innings. He previously scored a century against India in the bilateral series.
His brilliant innings was finally brought to an end by Shakib Al Hasan in the 19th over of the game. He slowed down a bit towards the end of his innings and gave away his wicket in a soft dismissal. He scored 109 runs in just 56 balls, with seven boundaries and as many as eight sixes in the innings.
Meanwhile, the Proteas had an anticlimactic end to their innings, failing to go big in the later stages of the game. They ended with a score of 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
