Three ex-Delhi players who are doing well for other teams in Indian T20 League 2022
The Indian T20 League is the biggest of the T20 tournaments in the world. The tournament has brought together the biggest names under one roof over the years. The uniqueness of the tournament lies in its auction system for the franchises to select players for their squad. The auction has often seen players from a particular franchise playing for some other team the next season and doing considerably well there. Here are three players who played for Delhi in the ITL 2021 but were not retained by the franchise. In turn, they ended up in another team for the Indian T20 League 2022 and are doing a pretty good job there.
1. Shimron Hetmyer: Shimron Hetmyer was bought by the Delhi team in the 2020 ITL auctions for a price of INR 7.75 Cr. He was entrusted with the job of playing in the lower order and providing them with some powerful finishes. But barring some matches, he failed to live up to the expectations. He played 26 matches for Delhi and scored 427 runs at a Runs Per Innings stat of just 16.42. As a result, he was released by Delhi and Rajasthan picked him up ahead of ITL 2022 for a price of INR 8.50 Cr.
In his new franchise, Hetmyer has perfectly repaid the faith shown in him. In ITL 2022, he has scored 227 runs from eight matches at an average of 56.75 and a strike rate of 171.97. He has provided Rajasthan with some strong finishes in the tournament so far.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin was a part of the Delhi team for the 2020 and 2021 Indian T20 League seasons. In the two years, he played 28 matches for the team and picked up 20 wickets in them. While his strike rate was below par, his experience and economic bowling from one end were of good value. But the Delhi team decided not to retain the player and released him ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022.
Rajasthan bought him in the mega auctions of Indian T20 League 2022 for a price of INR 5 Cr. He has played eight matches in the pink outfit so far in the season and has picked up seven wickets in them. He is also playing the role of a number three batter for the team in the last few matches.
3. Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas Iyer was a part of the Delhi team since his debut in 2015. But ahead of the mega auctions for the Indian T20 League 2022, Delhi decided to release the batter. Kolkata who was in search of a captaincy candidate bought Iyer for a price of INR 12.25 Cr.
Shreyas has scored 248 runs in the tournament at an average of 35.43. He played a brilliant knock of 85 runs against Rajasthan and nearly took his team to victory. Iyer is also trying to lead his team from the front and make the best use of the resource available to him.
