Glenn Maxwell pulverized the Netherlands bowling attack to set a new ODI World Cup record. The 34-year-old had scored the fastest-ever century scored in the history of the ODI World Cup cricket.

The Australian had broken the record set by Aiden Markram of South Africa during the same ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. The ODI World Cup 2023 campaign in India has already seen a huge run fest going into the halfway stage of the tournament.

Here are the five batters who have scored the fastest individual centuries in the history of the ODI World Cups.

5. AB De Villiers – Sydney – versus West Indies – 2015 WC -52 balls

2015 was a year to remember for AB De Villiers as the South African batter created one record after another. Just few months prior to the tournament the right-handed batter had scored the fastest ODI ton in 30 balls. Taking a liking to West Indies bowling again, Sydney Cricket Ground witnessed ABD score his century off just 52 balls.

4. Glenn Maxwell – Sydney- versus Sri Lanka – 2015 WC – 51 balls

Australia scored a massive score of 378 runs during the run-riot seen in Sydney versus Sri Lanka. The run-scoring riot was thanks to Glenn Maxwell who cut the Lankan bowling to size. The maverick Australian took just 51 balls to score one of the fastest centuries in ODI World Cup history.   

3. Kevin O Brien – Bengaluru –versus England – 2011 WC – 50 balls

The English team was in complete command while defending the 328 run total in Bengaluru versus Ireland. Just when it seemed like England would coast to an easy win. Kevin O’Brien scored the then-fastest century in ODI World Cups from just 50 balls.

2. Aiden Markram – New Delhi – versus Sri Lanka – 2023 WC – 49 balls

29-year-old Aiden Markram had already seen Quinton De Kock and Rassie Van Der Dussen make merry against the Sri Lankan bowling. The 29-year-old decided to heap more misery on the Lankans. Aiden Markram broke the record for the fastest ODI century in ODI World Cups in just 49 balls.

David Warner had already laid waste to the hapless Dutch bowling by scoring his 2nd ton of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. The Netherlands bowlers heaved a sigh of relief when Warner was out for 104. Little did they know that a storm named Glenn Maxwell was set to blow them away by scoring the fastest century in ODI World Cup history. The 34-year-old Victorian got to the mark in just 40 balls and marked it with wild celebrations.
