‘Tv tut gye honge’- Fans react as India beat Pakistan by 228 runs in Asia Cup 2023
India beat Pakistan by 228 runs in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2023, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Rain pushed the Asia Cup Super Four game between India and Pakistan into a reserve day. The contest resumed as a full 50-overs-a-side match with India 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs. Former India captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul outclassed the Pakistan bowlers to score 356-2 in their 50 overs.
India made a bright start to the game with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scoring half-centuries and setting an opening stand of 121. Kohli and Rahul did not give Pakistan bowlers an opportunity to settle in and added 233 runs between themselves. Pakistan never got the start they required with Bumrah and Siraj troubled the Pakistan batters in their opening spell.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul outclassed Pakistan
Putting into bat first on Sunday, India was off to a dream start with both the openers continuing the form that they gained against Nepal. They made a brilliant 121-run partnership, before eventually falling in simultaneous overs. But former India skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were new to the crease and they settled down and made the score ticking with the rain interruption, team India was 147/2 in 24.1 overs. There was no possibility of play on Sunday, as the match headed to reserve day.
On the reserve day, the match started an hour and forty minutes late. With the new day the Indian experienced batters took little time to settle in the pitch. KL Rahul made his half-century in just 60 balls and Kohli brought up his fifty in 55 balls. They looked in fine touch and posted a mega total in Colombo tying their highest against Pakistan in ODI cricket. Rahul scored his 6th ODI hundred and was unbeaten at 111 runs off 102 balls. The 34-year-old batter on the other hand scored 122 runs off 94 balls. They stitched the highest partnership against the hosts of 233 runs.
In reply, Pakistan never looked in control under the lights with Bumrah and Siraj created problems for them. Imam-Ul-Haq was caught behind off Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery. Hardik Pandya bowled captain Babar Azam with a gem of a delivery. Kuldeep Yadav rattled the middle order, as three batters only scored 20+ runs, and he picked up a fifer. They were 128 runs as two batters Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah did not come out to bat.
