Chennai and Hyderabad faced each other in the 17th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The match took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The two teams came into the match looking to register their first victories this season. The match, in the end, turned out to be a one-sided affair as Hyderabad won the match easily.

Hyderabad won the toss and opted to field. Chennai lost both their openers within the powerplays and were 41 for 2 down after the end of the 6 overs. Moeen Ali (48 off 35 ) and Ambati Rayudu (27 off 27) steadied the ship for Chennai. Ambati Rayudu was dismissed in the 14th over when the score was 98. The skipper of the team Ravindra Jadeja played a little cameo at the end. He scored 23 runs off 15 deliveries. Chennai reached a total of 154 runs in their 20 overs. The score looked a competitive one, given the fact that the pitch appeared to be slow and the batters were finding it difficult to time it perfectly. Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers from Hyderabad. he picked up 2 wickets from 4 overs conceding just 21 runs.

Hyderabad began their chase brilliantly. The openers in Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson complemented each other and gave them a solid start. While Sharma was the aggressive partner of the two, Williamson at the opposite end played a second fiddle looking to rotate the strike. The opening partnership was ultimately broken by Mukesh Choudhary in the 13th over. The left armer picked up Kane Williamson for 32 runs off 40 deliveries. Hyderabad had 89 runs on the board at the stage. But Abhishek Sharma looked determined to win the game for his team. He was joined by Rahul Tripathi and the duo kept moving towards the target. After the end of the 15th over Hyderabad required 34 runs off 30 deliveries. Hyderabad was well on course to their first victory of the tournament. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed finally in the 18th over by Dwayne Bravo, but not before he scored a brilliant 75 off 50 deliveries. Rahul Tripathi (39 off 15) and Nicholas Pooran (5 off 2) enssured a 8 wicket victory for Hyderabad with 14 balls remaining in the match. Chennai’s terrible time continues with 4 defeats in as many matches in the tournament, while Hyderabad registered their first win.
