Lucknow and Chennai locked horns in the 7th match of the Indian T20 League at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Chennai looked to have revived from their batting collapse in the previous match and performed well with the bat in this match. The game went down the wire on batting heaven as both the teams scored heavily. A total of 421 runs were scored in the match.

The skipper of the Lucknow team, KL Rahul won the toss and decided that his team will chase. Chennai went in with a new opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa. Ruturaj was the victim of an unfortunate run out but Robin Uthappa looked to be in a heavenly touch. He scored a brilliant half-century off just 27 deliveries before he was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi. Shivam Dube (49 off 30) and Moeen Ali (35 off 22) continued what Uthappa started and the final punch was provided by MS Dhoni. Dhoni played a brilliant little cameo of 16 runs from 6 deliveries and took the Chennai total to 210 runs in their 20 overs.

Lucknow started the chase brilliantly. The opening stand between KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock put up 99 runs in just 10.1 overs. KL Rahul was dismissed for 40 off 26 deliveries by Dwaine Pretorius in the second delivery of the 11th over. Manish Pandey soon followed his skipper with the team score at 106 in the 12th over. After this De Kock and Evin Lewis looked like they are trying to take the game deep as the required run rate started to increase. De Kock fell under pressure, as Pretorius picked him when he was at 61 off 45 deliveries. Lewis batted till the very end of the innings scoring 55 runs off 23 deliveries. Lewis was helped by young Ayush Badoni as Lucknow won the match by 6 wickets with 3 balls still to be bowled in thematch.
