 Twitter Reactions: Hyderabad hand Gujarat first loss of the Indian T20 League

Hyderabad faced Gujarat in the 21st match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The pitch appeared a sporty one and provided something for everybody. But the match turned to e a one sided affair in the end.

Hyderabad won the toss and put Gujarat into bat. The man in form, Shubman Gill was dismissed early by Bhuvneswar Kumar for just 7 runs off 9 deliveries. Two more wickets fell within a short span of time and Gujarat was 64 for 3 down in the 8th over. The skipper of the Hardik Pandya and David Miller stabilized the innings from there. The duo stitched a partnership of 40 runs before Miller was dismissed for 12 runs off 15 deliveries by Marco Jansen. Hardik Pandya stitched another important partnership of 50 runs with Abhinav Manohar. Manohar was dismissed for a personal score of 35 off 21 deliveries by Bhuvneswar Kumar. Hardik Pandya stayed firm at one end till the end scoring a steady 50 of 42 deliveries. He hit 4 fours and 1 six in his knock. On the back of Hardik’s half-century and a valuable contribution by Abhinav Manohar, Gujarat reached a total of 162 runs in their 20 overs. T Natarajan and Bhuvneswar Kumar both picked up 2 wickets for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad’s opening pair gave them a solid start to the chase. Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma put up a partnership of 64 runs in 8.4 overs before Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 42 off 32 by Rashid Khan. Sharma’s counter-attacking innings gave Williamson the time to settle down. Rahul Tripathi joined Williamson, as the latter continued his steady progress. But in the 14th over Tripathi had to walk off with an apparent hamstring pull and Nicholas Pooran came in to replace him. After the end of the 15th over Hyderabad was 116 for 1 requiring 47 runs off the final 5 overs. Hyderabad looked comfortably placed in the match with 9 wickets in hand.

The skipper of Gujarat picked up the priced wicket of Kane Williamson in the 17th over of the innings. Kane was dismissed for 57 from 46 deliveries and it looked like there was another twist left in the match. But Nicholas Pooran ensured that the Hyderabad reaches home comfortably. He scored 34 off 18 deliveries as Hyderabad won their second match of the tournament by 8 wickets with 5 balls remaining in the match. Gujarat faced their first defeat of the tournament.
