Two big media giants are out of the race for the Indian T20 League’s Digital Media Rights For 2023-27 Cycle
The Indian T20 League is regarded as the most famous franchise league in cricket. Till now, 15 editions of the tournament have been completed and it has become a cricketing festival for the whole cricket fraternity.
In the latest edition of this tournament, the Gujarat franchise came out as the champions in their first appearance.
All all the talks are currently are on the acquisition of the media rights for the next season. Speaking to ANI, a source said that the digital media rights of this tournament can go to one of the biggest industrial houses of India for the upcoming five-year cycle (2023-2027).
“Current right holder is not interested in renewing their contract” – a board source
During the interaction with ANI, it got confirmed that the current rights holder is not interested in renewing the contract. The source added:
“Yes, the digital media rights for the IPL can go to one of the biggest industrial houses of the country as they are fully active in the entertainment and sports industry and also they are a part of the league for a long time. As the current right holder is not interested in renewing their contract and the reason behind this is not clear,”
Also, big companies like Amazon and Google have pulled themselves out from the race and it is being considered a major setback for the Indian Cricket Board. Various organizations like Sony, Viacom, and Times Network have submitted technical bids to win the digital media rights of the league for the next five years.
These technical bids will be evaluated by the Legal and finance committee team of the Indian Cricket Board. After this, qualified bidders will advance to the final bidding round which will be conducted on Sunday, 12 June 2022.
