UEFA to follow a new Champions League format from the 2024-25 season
Union of European Football Association (UEFA) is undergoing a few changes, with regards to Champions League, which will be applicable from the season 2024-25 onwards. UEFA has increased the number of teams from 32 to 36.
This also means that the teams will get eight league games, according to the current format. Another change is not to introduce the controversial access of quality for the UCL via club coefficient.
Notably, the traditional ground stage will be changed to the single league phase. The European Football governing body took to Twitter and made the announcement. It is stated that the teams will get four home games and as many away games as opposed to three home and as many away games according to the current format.
“Every club will now get a minimum of 8 league stage games against eight different opponents (four home games, four away) rather than the previous six matches against three teams, played on a home-and-away basis,” the statement stated.
⚽ The #UEFAExCo has approved the final format and access list for UEFA club competitions from the 2024/25 season.
✅ No more access granted based on club coefficients.
✅ Eight matches instead of ten in the new league phase.
