Umesh Yadav allegedly duped of lakhs over ‘barren’ land in his hometown by a friend

India pacer Umesh Yadav has been allegedly duped 44 lakhs INR by his friend-turned-manager, Shailesh Thakre. The latter has been working with the cricketer since July 2014. Yadav employed Thakre as the latter was unemployed at the time. As per the police official, the right-arm pacer’s finances, income tax, bank accounts, etc were managed by the accused. At this point, the accused hasn’t been arrested.

Meanwhile, the official further added that Thakre located a barren plot in Nagpur, Umesh’s hometown. Thakre, according to the First Information Report (FIR), told Yadav that the land would cost 44 lakhs INR. Notably, Thakre purchased the land on his own name. Now, the 35-year-old cricketer has filed a case against his friend.

“Thakre gained the trust of Yadav over time. He started handling all the financial affairs of Umesh Yadav. He used to handle Yadav’s bank account, income tax and other financial tasks,” he said.

“Thakre located a plot in a barren area. He told Yadav he would get it for Rs 44 lakh. Yadav deposited Rs 44 lakh in Thakre’s bank account. However, Thakre purchased the plot in his name,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 2013 Champions Trophy winner has filed a case against his ‘friend’ under two different sections. The first section slapped on Thakre is the 406 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and thereby dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“Yadav lodged a complaint with police in Koradi, following which a case was registered under sections 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (Cheating and thereby dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code,” the official added.

Umesh has been an integral part of the India Cricket team in Tests over the years. It will be interesting to see whether he is being served justice or not.
