On 12 September 2022, the Indian selectors announced the final squad for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup. They also announced four stand-by players. Among them, Shami made a comeback as India’s bowling was very poor in the recently concluded Asia Cup. However, ahead of the World Cup, India kicked off their three-match T20I series against the Aussies at home on 20 September.

Shami was in the squad. But, a few days back of that series, Shami got ruled out due to Covid 19 infection. Hence, the Indian Cricket Board announced that another veteran pacer, Umesh Yadav will replace him. Speaking of the match, Australia won the toss and they asked India to bat first. Umesh Yadav got the chance to play in the playing XI as India did not pick Jasprit Bumrah.

For India, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out to open the innings. Both Rohit and Virat failed to score big. While KL Rahul scored 55 runs off 35 balls. Apart from him, Suryakumar Yadav scored 46 runs off 25 balls. Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 71 runs off 30 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. These contributions helped India to post a total of 208 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs.

In reply, skipper Aaron Finch and Cameron Green came out to open the innings. Aaron Finch went early after scoring 22 runs off 13 balls. But, green scored 61 runs off 30 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Umesh Yadav conceded 16 runs in his first over as Green smashed four consecutive boundaries. But, in his second over, he took back-to-back wickets of Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell to turn the momentum towards his team. Smith scored 35 runs off 24 balls while Maxwell only scored one run. Fans also loved it as Umesh managed to make a comeback in his second over with these huge wickets.
