On 20 September 2022, the stage was set for an enthralling battle between India and Australia in Mohali. Both teams locked horns in the first T20I of the three-match series. After having a poor Asia Cup, India were looking to do well in this match ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. On the other hand, Australia were coming off an ODI series victory over the Kiwis at home.

However, ahead of the World Cup, this series was going to be a great test for both teams. Speaking of the match, Aaron Finch won the toss and he asked India to bat first. Australia handed a debut cap to Tim David. While India picked up Umesh Yadav ahead of Jasprit Bumrah.

For India, Rohit Sharma came out to open with KL Rahul. Both Rohit and Virat Kohli got out early. Then, KL Rahul scored 55 runs off 35 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. Suryakumar Yadav scored 46 runs off 25 balls, including two fours and four sixes. But, it was Hardik Pandya who scored a quickfire fifty from 25 balls. He scored 71* runs off 30 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. Thus, India scored 208 runs by losing six wickets in 20 overs.

In reply, Aaron Finch came out to open the innings with Cameron Green. Finch got out early after scoring 22 runs off 13 balls. Green made an excellent start as he scored 61 runs off 30 balls. Smith also scored 35 runs off 24 balls. Umesh Yadav took two consecutive wickets to turn the game towards India. But, Wade scored 45* runs off 21 balls, including six fours and two sixes. He ensured that Australia managed to chase the target down in just 19.2 overs. They chased down the target by losing six wickets also. Australia defeated India by four wickets in the series opener. Now, with a 1-0 lead, Australia will lock horns again with India on 23 September 2022. Fans did not like this loss as they shared their views on social media platforms.
