‘Very well played you deserved it’ – Fans react as B-Love Kandy win LPL 2023 final by 5 wickets against Dambulla Aura

B– Love Kandy and Dambulla Aura recently encountered each other in the final match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) on 20 August 2023, Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Dambulla Aura batted first, and the team collectively put a relatively low target on the board in the final game.  

The Sri Lankan batters Dhananjaya de Silva and Sadeera Samarawickrama became the highest scorers for Dambulla Aura as they scored 40 and 36 runs off 29 and 30 deliveries with a strike rate of 137.93 and 120, respectively. Dhananjaya de Silva smashed three huge sixes that left the spectators in hope for DMA to win. The top-order batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 5 fours to lead Dambulla Aura to a score of 147-4. 

B- Love Kandy successfully chased the target of 148 runs scored 151 runs at the end of 20 overs and won the LPL 2023.  The team’s opening batters Kamindu Mendis and Mohammad Haris became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 44 and 26 runs off 37 and 22 deliveries, respectively. Lahiru Madushanka smashed a 4 on the last ball when the team needed 1 off 2 to win the game and BLK won by 5 wickets. 

‘I am very happy because I contributed with bat’ – Wanindu Hasaranga 

B-Love Kandy sealed an easy victory against Dambulla Aura by 5 wickets. With Angelo Mathews as the Player of the Match.  “We should thank our support staff and the foreign players. After the first two losses, we bounced back well in Kandy. We won three out of three in Kandy. We came here and played consistently. We started playing good cricket in Kandy. Our batters took responsibility and our bowlers did a good job,” said Wanindu Hasaranga, Captain of B-Love Kandy. 

“I am very happy because I contributed with bat. I tried to do my best be it with the bat or with the ball. Our head coach asked me to bat higher. I was ready to do that. I also wanted to do something with the bat. No (pressure), whenever I play, I try to do my best whether I am captaining or not. I was the Player of the Tournament in the first edition as well. This is more pleasing as I contributed with the bat.”, added Hasaranga.
