Virat Kohli Demands Rest Again As The Indian Cricket Board Is Set To Announce Squad For WI T20Is
Virat Kohli is now currently busy playing the ODI series against England. However, he missed the first ODI due to a groin injury. Now, he is most likely to miss the second match also. Due to his injury, the meeting of the Indian selectors got canceled on Monday (11 July 2022) as the Indian Cricket Board is set to announce the T20I squad for the upcoming West Indies T20Is.
Earlier this month, the Board announced the ODI squad for three matches in West Indies as no star players will be part of it. As per reports, Virat Kohli has demanded rest again as he does not want to visit West Indies for five T20I matches.
The T20 squad for the West Indies tour is set to be announced next 24 hours
Board members have already conducted a meeting and the T20 squad for the West Indies tour is reported to be announced next 24 hours. However, team management and the selectors are not ready to drop him ahead of the mega event later this year in Australia.
Speaking about his form, Virat is still searching for his best form as he failed to deliver in the Test match and two T20Is against England. However, if he misses the upcoming T20Is against West Indies, then it will be tough for him to be a part of the upcoming World Cup squad.
Talking to InsideSport, a Board member said that they are not yet ready to rest him and they will discuss it before making any final decision. “If a player wants to rest, you can’t deny him. Yes, it’s not ideal for a player who is struggling with form. But we can’t force a player to play if he doesn’t want. But no decision on Virat has been made yet. We will discuss with both captain and the coach before announcing the squad,” the Board member concluded. Virat might be seen for playing for India if he gets recovered from the groin injury in the scheduled second and third ODI against England.
