Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma ‘unhappy’ with his pupil’s performance against Bangladesh
Former India skipper Virat Kohli was expected to break his Test century drought in the two-match series against Bangladesh. After all, he broke his ODI hundred drought in the preceding three-match ODI series. Not to forget, Kohli’s century drought started after hitting a Test hundred against the same team in 2019. Meanwhile, in the recently concluded Test series, the former India skipper could manage 45 runs.
Now, the Delhi player’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma isn’t happy with his pupil’s intent with the bat. The former started by saying that way Kohli is getting out is unacceptable. Sharma feels that his pupil could have shown more intent against the opposition given his stature. Furthermore, Sharma said Virat should have played over the mid-on and mid-off fielders while the spinners were bowling.
“A batter is quite disappointed after he gets out, and Virat Kohli is very aggressive by nature. But the way he has been getting out is not acceptable. It’s unfortunate to see a batter of his stature struggle against Bangladeshi spinners. He should have shown more intent,” Rajkumar told India News Sports.
“With both the mid-on and mid-off fielders inside the circle, he could have played a bit more freely. Unless you unsettle a spinner, he is not going to let you play. You need to do something innovative like playing a slog sweep or sweeping an outside off ball,” he added.
India inches closer to World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle
Ahead of the series, the WTC 2019-21 finalists needed to win their remaining games in the cycle. They needed to win both games of the Bangladesh series and the four games of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series next year. The KL Rahul-led side won the first game comfortably by 188 runs. In the second game, India huffed and puffed their way to the series win as they won by three wickets.
With this win, they have kept themselves closer to the WTC 2021-23 final. They need to win at least three games out of the remaining four.
