Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will be entering the upcoming Women’s 20-20 World Cup with a mission to win their maiden title. Since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2009, the Women In Blue qualified for the final once, in 2020. Apart from this, they played in the semis in 2009, 2010, and 2018. Not to forget, since the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup, the team has missed out on the semis spot only. i.e last year’s World Cup.

Apart from that, they won the Silver medal in the maiden Commonwealth Games appearance, losing to Australia in the final. Meanwhile, the 2020 finalists will get another opportunity to win a major title this year. In the upcoming Women’s 20-20 World Cup 2023, India has been slated with Pakistan, Ireland, West Indies, and England in Group B. Even though they might easily get to the semis, the real challenge for them would be to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, ahead of the World Cup, the tournament’s official Twitter handle posted a picture of different skippers. In reply, India skipper, Kaur wrote that she is excited to bring the trophy home with the team

“Super excited to witness this campaign once again as a leader waiting to be welcomed with a trophy back home. Jai Hind,” wrote on Twitter.

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India for the third time in 20-20 World Cup 2023

Meanwhile, the right-hander will be leading her national side for the third time in the 20-20 World Cups. In her maiden stint as captain in 2018, the team reached the semis, losing to England. Two years later, India qualified for the final, losing to the eventual winner, Australia. If the team is looking to win the World Cup, they would need to beat the likes of Australia and England in the knockouts.

However, the team might take inspiration from their colts side, which won the U19 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. Players such as Richa Ghosh and Shafali Varma were part of the team and they would love to bring their insights during the tournament.
