‘Wasn’t ever a doubt’ – Fans celebrate as Suryakumar Yadav becomes Men’s T20I cricketer of the year
India middle-order Suryakumar Yadav has won the Male Cricketer of the Year award in the T20I format. He amassed 1164 runs in 31 matches at an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 187.43. Yadav became just the second batter to make more than 1000 runs in a calendar year in T20Is. Also, the right-hander hit a stunning 68 sixes during the year, the most recorded by anyone in a year.
The Indian was the key batter for his team throughout the year, smashing two hundreds and nine half-centuries. Surya was the third-highest run-getter with 239 runs in six games at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68 including three fifties. The 32-year-old recorded his third T20I hundred in the game against Sri Lanka early this month.
It’s a great feeling and 2022 has been amazing for me: Suryakumar Yadav
After receiving the award, the former Kolkata player in the Indian T20 League expressed his feelings. He started by saying that last year was amazing for him with the bat. He added that he enjoyed a few knocks last year. Yadav picked his maiden T20I hundred, which came against England last July as his special knock. He concluded by saying that he hopes that more knocks like that come in the future.
“It’s a great feeling and 2022 has been amazing for me. From a personal point of you – I really enjoyed a few knocks I played that year. And If I had to pick one knock which I feel was special and very close to me, was my first hundred for my country. Because the first hundred is always special. Hopefully, many more knocks to come. Thank you,” Suryakumar told the Apex Council after accepting the Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award.
