There was a time when Chris Gayle and Anil Kumble were part of the Punjab team. The former played for the team from 2018 to 2021. On the other hand, the former India Test skipper was the head coach of the team from 2020 to 2022. Ahead of the previous season’s player auction, Gayle decided not to register himself for the auction. On the other hand, Kumble has been replaced as head coach by Trevor Bayliss a few months back.

The duo was part of the expert panel on the digital broadcasters of the Indian T20 League 2023 player auction. During the event, the former West Indies skipper was at his humorous best as usual. Meanwhile, during the auction, the left-hander took a hilarious dig at Kumble. Not to forget, Chris recently mentioned about chopping and changing policy in the Punjab setup and criticized the team. Now, he pointed out how even he wasn’t free from the policy.

“I might be on the unlucky side, or should I say… (looks at Kumble) what should I say?” Gayle said, prompting laughter from not only the former India spinner but also Eoin Morgan and Scott Styris, who were part of the panel as well.

Kumble hilariously replied, “Both of us are on the same page.”

Gayle, then, took another funny dig at the former Punjab coach.

“I’ve been on the unlucky side a few times. Anil is not there now. He was a part of it but he chopped and changed me, that’s a reason why he is sitting next to me now. They chopped and changed him. You know what I’m saying? Hopefully, it can be a better cause this time around!” said Gayle.

Talking about the Punjab team, they have bought Sam Curran for a record 18.5 crores. With this, he has become the costliest player in the history of the league. Previously, this record was held by former South Africa all-rounder, Chirs Morris, who was bought by Rajasthan for 16.25 crores.
