India’s Olympic Gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra’s dream run continues as he clinched his first top-3 finish at the prestigious Diamond League. He finished second in the tournament. Grenadian Anderson Peters became first in the tournament with his throw of 90.31 meters.

After the Olympics, Neeraj was determined to cross the 90-meter mark in 2022. In the recently concluded Paavo Nurmi Games, he made a National record with a throw of 89.30 meters. Hence, in this tournament, he came with a lot of hope and enthusiasm to breach the 90-meter mark as he was inching closer to that with every throw.

Neeraj Chopra created a National record for himself

In this event, Neeraj made a throw of a massive 89.94 meters in his first attempt. It was enough for him to create a National record for himself. The video of that throw also got shared by some fans on Twitter as it got viral quickly.

Here is the tweet:

The eventual champion threw for 90.31 meters and that was enough for him to win this tournament. In his total six attempts, Neeraj made throws of 89.94m, 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m, 86.67m, and 86.84m.

Earlier this year, he expressed his wish to cross the 90-meter mark. He said: “I will try to cross the 90-meter mark this year. I’m not thinking that I have to cross it in my first event but I will give my best in every event. We also have to take into account the weather and the conditions on the day – my performance will depend on those as well,”

After the tournament, he spoke to reporters that he was feeling good today and thought of throwing a 90-meter. India’s golden boy also expressed that the overall training is going well for him and slow improvement is best for his progress. Neeraj also said that he will look to deliver more good performances in the upcoming events later this year after congratulating the champion of this event.
