Watch: Melbourne Stars player takes catching to ‘another level’ in Men’s BBL 2022
The new season of the Men’s Big Bash League started with a game between former champions, Sydney Thunders and Melbourne Stars. In this game, players such as Marcus Stoinis, Trent Boult, and Adam Zampa played for the Stars with Zampa leading the side. On the other hand, players such as Alex Hales, Rilee Rossouw, and Fazalhaq Farooqi featured for the former champions.
Meanwhile, during the game, Brody Couch, who came in as a substitute fielder for the four-time finalists, might have taken the catch of the season already. In the first over of the Thunders’ innings (second innings), Couch was fielding at short fine leg. Matthew Gilkes, who was facing Boult in the opening over tried to play a flick shot.
However, the left-hander, Gilkes, managed to play it towards Couch, who took a tumbling catch. Apparently, the latter dove towards the ball and almost dropped the catch. However, the white Kookaburra slipped towards his thighs which is why it wasn’t a dropped catch till then. The substitute fielder made sure that he completes the catch in the end. The video of the incident is going viral.

Talking about the game, Sydney decided to bat field first. They managed to restrict the opposition at 122/8 with no batter scoring a fifty. Nick Larkin (25) was the highest individual scorer for the Melbourne side. For the Jason Sangha-led Sydney side, the likes of Gurinder Sandhu, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Daniel Sams took two wickets each. On the other hand, Brendon Doggett and Chris Green took one each.
In reply, the 2015 winners managed to win the game by one wicket. The falling of wickets at regular intervals was a big problem for the chasing side. However, Sandhu, who shone with the ball early in the game, scored 20 not out and ensured his side won by one wicket and on the last ball of the game. The first game of the tournament turned out to be a thriller.
