Watch: Michael Neser pulls a stunning controversial catch; fans call it a six, umpire gives it out!
In the second game of the New Year in the ongoing Big Bash League, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers locked horns. The 2012-13 winners, the Heat were coming off two straight losses in the new year. On the other hand, three-time winners, the Sixers had won four back-to-back losses. Meanwhile, during the dying moments of the game, what happened can turn out to be a hot debate topic.
In the second last over of the game, Sixers’ Jordan Silk for the second consecutive, after hitting one over the square leg on the previous ball. Meanwhile, on the next ball, the right-hander tried to hit a six-over extra cover boundary. However, Michael Neser, the fielder at the boundary, plucked an unbelievable catch. However, the catch has become controversial as the fans aren’t agreeing with the umpire’s decision.
Apparently, they feel that it was a six as, during the second attempt, the fielder was inside the rope albeit in the air while flicking the ball. Not to forget, when Steve Smith played for now-defunct Pune in the Indian T20 League 2012, he tried the same thing. In the game between Pune and Rajasthan, Shane Watson hit a lofted drive between the long-on and long-off area.
In that game, Smith flicked the ball up in the air and it was going inside the rope. However, the former Australia skipper made the same attempt as Neser. In reply, the umpires gave it a six. However, in the BBL’s case, the umpires have given it out.

Brisbane Heat enters the New Year with a win
Meanwhile, talking about the game, the Heat batted first after winning the toss. The decision proved right as they amassed 224/5 at one of the biggest grounds in Australia. The likes of Josh Brown (62) and Nathan McSweeney (84) helped the team reach such a high total. However, the Pink Brigade retaliated well but fell short by 15 runs. With this win, they have broken the streak of back-to-back losses.
