After defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last match at Arun Jaitely Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai on Sunday, April 16. In this fixture, the MI’s regular Rohit Sharma did not play in the first innings as he is suffering from a stomach bug, and in place of world number one T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav led the side. The five times champion won the toss and elected to ball first.

KKR captain Nitish Rana and Mumbai Indians right-arm off-break Hrithik Shokeen got into a heated argument. Rana went down the wicket to attempt a spinner on the first delivery of the ninth over, but completely missed it and gave a comfortable catch to Ramandeep Singh. Nitish Rana conversed briefly with the Mumbai Indians spinner while Shokeen celebrated his maiden wicket.

Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar are the first father-son duo in the IPL

If we talk about the match, the visitors batting first, finished the innings at a score of 185 runs with a loss of six wickets. The highest scorer for Knight Riders was star India all-rounder, Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 104 runs off just 51 balls, which included nine sixes and six fours in his innings. He became the second KKR batter to score a hundred after former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum, who scored 158 runs off 73 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) back in 2008 in the first encounter of the Indian Premier League.

For the home side, the pick of the bowler was Shokeen, who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs, where he conceded 34 runs in his spells. One wicket each was grabbed by Cameron Green, Duan Jansen, Piyush Chawla, and Riley Meridith while conceding 20 runs, 53 runs, 19 runs, and 40 runs respectively in their spells.

Former Mumbai Indians skipper Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun Tendul made his debut in today’s match and he replaced Rohit Sharma in the team. The son of former MI captain Sachin Tendulkar, the left-arm fast bowler, will play his maiden IPL encounter at the same location where Tendulkar played his final international match against the West Indies back in 2013.

The first father-son duo in the IPL is Sachin and Arjun.  In 2021, Arjun became a member of the Mumbai Indians. In the IPL 2022 mega-auction, Arjun was acquired for Rs 30 lakh by the Mumbai Indians side. In his domestic career, he has participated in 7 first-class, 9 T20, and 7 List-A matches.
