However, he failed to copy Smith. The best part of the match was the loud cheer he received from the crowd as soon as he switched his tennis racket with the bat.
Steven Smith to open for Australia in Test matches
Australia’s selector George Bailey has confirmed that Steven Smith will open in the test matches after David Warner’s retirement. Australia is set to play Cameron Green at No.4. Considering Smith’s form, the decision to make him open in the test matches has sparked a lot of controversies. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how Smith will perform in his new position.
Bailey said, “Steve’s obviously motivated and energized and keen to do it,” Bailey said. “There were plenty within the team who were pretty keen to go on record and say that they weren’t keen to do it. So it was refreshing that Steve had come forward and said he wanted it and it was something that we’d been chatting about in the background as a selection panel with the coaches as well.”
