Pakistan and New Zealand are playing each other in the Boxing Day Test in Karachi. Batting first, the home team amassed 438, thanks to Babar Azam and Salman Ali Agha’s hundreds and Sarfaraz Ahmed’s fifty. In reply, the Kiwis have been fighting back with the bat. On the other hand, just like the England series, Pakistan’s bowling has struggled once again.

Only Nauman Ali, Abrar Ahmed, and Mohammad Wasim have taken wickets. However, the other bowlers including the trio have conceded so many runs. Nauman has been the second-highest run conceder for the team with 147 runs and counting. Abrar has conceded 165 runs and counting. On Day Three, the Tim Southee-led side scored 440/6, leading by two runs at stumps. After the Day’s play, Ali faced the media and was asked about his bowling figures.

A journalist said that how Ali has ‘scored centuries with the ball’.

“We know it’s a dead wicket but spinners have a role to play on such tracks. If we look at your stats, you have scored centuries in last four matches with the ball. You’ve conceded 100+ runs. If spinners can’t take wickets… do we only rely on god’s will to save us, like Saqlain Mushtaq had said? Do players not have the talent anymore?” the reporter asked Nauman bluntly.

If you bowl 40-45 overs, you will concede 100 plus runs: Nauman Ali

Even after the attacking question, the left-arm spinner maintained his composer. The 36-year-old clarified by saying that he has been bowled a lot of overs in the last few games.

“You correctly said that I conceded 100+ runs but you didn’t count the overs. I’ve bowled 40-45 overs. If you bowl almost half of the team’s overs, you are bound to concede runs. We try to do our best on the conditions given to us. And we will try to win this match as well,” said Nauman in a rather composed manner.
