On 11 September 2022, Pakistan took on Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup 2022. However, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the last match of the ‘Super Four’ stage. Hence, the stage was set for another thrilling match between these two teams. Meanwhile, Babar Azam won the toss and he opted to bowl first.
Pakistan bowlers started the match well as they took some early wickets of Sri Lanka. But, they managed to steady the ship. Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored a valuable fifty-plus score in the final. But, he survived once as Shadab Khan and Asif Ali got involved in a mix-up while trying to take his catch. They got involved in a scary collision while trying to catch that ball. Shadab Khan had some medical attention after that scary collision with Asif Ali against Sri Lanka
Speaking of that incident, it was the 19th over of the match. Mohammad Hasnain was bowling to Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Chamika Karunaratene. On the last delivery of that over, Rajapaksa tried to hit him for a six. The ball went very high. But, Asif Ali was running towards that to grab that catch.
Meanwhile, Shadab Khan also made a run to catch that from the other side. Ultimately, they collide and the ball ended at the other side of the boundary rope. Thus, Rajapaksa survived and the ball resulted as a six instead of a wicket. Shadab Khan had a bad collision and he got some medical attention also. Finally, he had to be taken off the field to get some treatments.
Speaking of the match, Bhanuka Rajapaksa remained unbeaten on 71 runs off 45 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Along with him, Dhananjaya de Silva and Wanindu Hasaranga scored 28 off 21 balls and 36 runs off 21 balls respectively. Thus, Sri Lanka posted a fighting total of 170 runs in 20 overs by losing six wickets.
