Watch: Steve Smith hits the ball over the roof against Hobart Hurricanes during BBL 2022-23
Steve Smith has been in great form with the bat in the ongoing Big Bash League 2022-23. The former Australia skipper has scored two back-to-back hundreds in the tournament. Meanwhile, in the game against Hobart Hurricanes, the right-hander hit one of the longest sixes of the tournament. In the seventh over of the Sydney Sixers, Smith faced Tim David and deposited the latter over the roof of the stadium.
The incident happened on the third ball of the seventh over. The commentators were stunned to see the ball sailing over the roof. The video has been going viral.

Meanwhile, talking about the game, the visitors, Sixers lost the toss and were asked to bat first. They had a good start as Steve Smith and Josh Phillipe put together 55 runs in 5.4 overs with the former scoring the most runs. Even though the team lost regular wickets, Smith’s half-century and Ben Dwarshius’s (30) cameo helped the team reach 180/7.
In reply, the home side, Hobart failed to chase the target as they were restricted to 156/8, losing the game 24 runs. After the game, Smith was adjudged the Player of the Match. During the post-match, he said that he wants to help the side win another title. However, he added that he won’t be able to play for the team as Australia will play Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India next month.
“I just want to help the boys win another title. The game in Perth will be my last game [this season] so hopefully I can give the boys a good sendoff. I’m playing for a reason. I wanted to play every game and I feel like I’ve been contributing with a good couple of games.”
